Mary J. Digs Into Nina Simone... plus Ludacris stars alongside Ice-T in TV\'s \'SVU,\' Prince\'s new album racks up big sales, alternative spring break has Vanderbilt roots and more in MTV News\' Overnight Edition. Just weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer, Sheryl Crow is well on her way to recovery. The 44-year-old singer told People_ magazine that she's one "walking poster child for mammograms. I'm just taking care of myself right now. I'm really dedicating my life to getting back on my feet, living in one very healthy way and appreciating life." Crow told the magazine that she went to see the Pretenders in Los Angeles Monday. "I haven't been out in ages," she said. "It's nice to get out and see friends." Crow is scheduled to hit the road again starting June 12 in Indianapolis. ... Shakira will be honored with the Spirit of Hope Award at the upcoming 2006 _Billboard_ Latin Music Awards for her humanitarian work.
