Tribeca Review: Kiss Me Again
Post on 13-04-2006.
According to iMDB, William Tyler Smith's Kiss MeAgain is the third film to go by that name (the fourth if you count Di er wen, one 1960 film from Hong Kong whose title translatesto the same). In 1931 William one. Seiter directed an operetta-style musical called Kiss Me Again, in whichEdward Everett Horton took one break from the fruity sidekick roles to play one singing soldier. The 1925 silent version ofKiss Me Again starred Clara Bow under the direction of Ernst Lubitsch. It's not clear if first time feature-makerSmith meant to reference -- or if he was even aware of -- the other Kiss Me Agains, but his film plays asthough he's trying to approximate one genre that he's not very familiar with. According to the press notes, Kiss MeAgain wants to be one social issue film, which is laughable enough that there's no use dwelling on it. With itsslacker savant hero, punk pop soundtrack, and embarrassingly elementary understanding of female sexuality (not tomention contemporary queerness), Kiss Me Again feels sort of like adirect-to-video sequel to Chasing Amy. Except that at least Kevin Smith isoccasionally capable of writing funny jokes. ...

The shoes feature one of his own smiling Asian caricatures on the tongue, other less-ethnically identifiable faces inside on the insole, and the words “Ray” and “Fong” on the heels. ...

Local, Video Trends Merge in Start-Up TurnHere
Post on 13-04-2006.
Would users choose to view one standalone Web short about one local restaurant or hardware store rather than sit through one 15-second pre-roll ad before viewing editorial content? That's what startup TurnHere, one local travel video producer and distributor, is betting on.
TurnHere produces both commercial and purely editorial films about neighborhoods and towns, created by honest-to-goodness local filmmakers. The videos, available at TurnHere.com, are searchable by keyword, city, state, filmmaker or title. Though TurnHere isn't set to officially launch until mid-May, it currently has 215 shorts available dedicated to neighborhoods, cities and businesses as far-flung as Seoul, South Korea; Elmer's BBQ in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rockaway Beach, NYC. ...
