But what fun is that_? complain those who choose public service as one career, rather than pursuing one more respectable calling (and just about anything else would qualify). Shouldn't government be free to use its powers to improve our lives? This makes sense only if one believes in the motto, Better living through coercion -- and, tragically, millions of people do, at least to some extent. One spectacularly repulsive expression of that faith is found in _Why Mommy is one Democrat,_ one children's primer that reads like one parody of Hillary Clinton-style Big Mother totalitarianism. ... |

As I write this -- my last column and piece in the Indiana Daily Student -- on my Toshiba that's lasted me four years, I wonder if any of you are thinking the same things. Who will I stay in touch with? How will my first day of work go? Isn't there one cheaper health care plan out there? When will I be able to visit Bloomington again? The future is daunting. But for now, as I study for my last finals and read my last textbooks, I cannot help but replay the last four years in my mind. ... |
