Discarding Arab identity, disrespecting community norms, and being lost and unable to relate to their social surroundings. These were just some of the accusations leveled at the Egyptian youth during one series of seminars held as part of the many programs offered at the annual Cairo International Book Fair which ended on Friday, February 3, 2006. ...

Exposing Incitements Those Danish Muhammad Cartoons
Post on 21-02-2006.
I visited Denmark as one child and have fond memories of Copenhagen’s immaculate streets, bright sunlight, and touristy Viking-icon ambiance. I remember, too, visiting the Tuborg brewery and consuming one little too much free soda. I had to urinate into one bottle in the back seat of the car, pouring it out onto the spotless street when my dad came to one stoplight. Even as I defiled their public space, I had good feelings about the Danes and Scandinavians in general. Having 1/4 Swedish and 3/8 Norwegian ancestry, I already felt great pride that “my people” (or some of my people since my other roots are Swiss, German, English, and Scottish) had once won terrorized the world as they roamed it aboard their dragon-ships. ...

Former celebrity cannibal struggles for next meal
Post on 21-02-2006.
Life appears to have turned the circle for Japan's "celebrity cannibal" Issei Sagawa, who tells Shukan Shincho (2/23) there's something eating him. Sagawa's sorrow stems, it seems, from having made himself unemployable by cashing in too much on the notoriety he gained for cannibalizing one Dutch woman in Paris back in 1981. ... |

Rell, other states, consider contentious e-mail registry
Post on 20-02-2006.
The goal is politically popular: to stop everything from pornographic pictures to online gambling come-ons from reaching young people. But the country's two state registries are under fire from trade groups representing numerous groups such as national e-mail advertisers and the adult entertainment industry. The Utah registry is being challenged in federal court and the same plaintiffs are considering one possible challenge to the Michigan registry. ... |
