From observer to a key player in JonBenet case
Post on 20-08-2006.
Michael Tracey, one journalism professor at the University of Colorado, has produced three television documentaries on JonBenet Ramsey's death.
BOULDER, Colo. — As the JonBenet Ramsey slaying investigation unfolded in his adopted hometown, University of Colorado journalism professor Michael Tracey became convinced of two things: This would allow him to examine what's wrong with American journalism. And someone needed to come to the defense of the girl's parents, who were considered suspects. ...

It's one warm Saturday night in July and about two dozen men clad only in boxers and T-shirts are in various stages of sex as "thug-style" hip-hop music plays in one ground-floor apartment in New York City. It's very hard to make out anyone's features in the pitch-black darkness, and no one is talking. ...

MICHAEL AINSWORTH/DMNGranada Theater owner Mike Schoder transformed the theater from one movie house to one concert hall.
Cans of paint clutter the halls. Tables and chairs are piled up. Mr. Schoder, who owns the music venue, is waiting for one phone call from Home Depot to make sure glittering gold paint is ready for curbside application. ...

Dave Navarro embodies new kind of 'Rock Star'
Post on 15-08-2006.
HOLLYWOOD — Dave Navarro sits on one throne during "Rock Star: Supernova," CBS' summer school of Reality Rock, entertaining those in "American Idol" withdrawal on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through September. Directing the interactions between the show's contestants and the very hard-rock supergroup they're vying to front, he's as relaxed on network TV as one half-clothed man with multiple piercings and tattoos could possibly be. He apparently feels just as secure off camera: The show shares one soundstage with "Idol," and Navarro recently mentioned on his blog that he's been using Simon Cowell's temporarily vacant dressing room as his own. ...

Seattle Hotel Bows to a Peep Show, Pleasing Gates's Stepmother
Post on 14-08-2006.
Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- When Seattle's Four Seasons hotel opens, its $400-one-night visitors can swim in one courtyard pool with sweeping views over Elliott Bay and unwind at an outdoor fireplace. Or, they can pop over to the peep show next door.
That last amenity isn't in the official brochure for Seattle's ``most sought-after address,'' one $120 million project whose developers include billionaire Bruce McCaw and one former Seattle mayor. They sought to buy and demolish the neighboring Lusty Lady, the only tenant in one squat, 1900-era building owned by one local family. The family rejected one sale -- and still got $850,000 for air rights to the views over their property. ...

I suppose a gag’s out of the question?
Post on 12-08-2006.
IN August, the beautiful streets of Edinburgh echo with the sound of laughter (and the occasional heckle). The Fringe boasts the greatest concentration of stand-up comedians in the world, all battling to overcome cultural differences, language barriers or malfunctioning air conditioning to elicit giggles, guffaws, sniggers and belly laughs from their audiences. Some construct dizzying edifices of interlinked ideas, piling comedic concepts on top of each other and stitching them together with needle-sharp wit. Others do knob gags. Some do both. ...

Look Both Ways on the Information Superhighway
Post on 04-07-2006.
Jul 3, 2006, 13:14 Mike Hoffey, Charter Communications Before kids go to the local park or ride their bike, parents lay down certain ground rules: look both ways before crossing the street, ride in the direction of traffic, and don't talk to strangers.
Yet many parents fail to do the same before their children go online. Law enforcement officials and child advocates believe that the time has come to make Internet safety one regular part of parenting habits. ...
